The City of Altoona has earned an ‘A+’ credit rating from S&P Global, elevating from ‘A’ and confirming a shift from a distressed municipality to a position of financial strength. The upgrade highlights consistent operating surpluses, which averaged over 7.5% of revenues over the past three years, alongside growing reserves that reached nearly $15 million in 2024. In a prepared statement, Councilman Jesse Ickes said, “This upgrade is a validation of our commitment to making continued progress from the decades of decline and neglect.”
