A local woman was hospitalized yesterday following a kitchen fire that broke out at a residence on Alpine Road, in Antis Township. Crews from the Excelsior Fire Company arrived on the scene to find a fire centered around the stove area. Fortunately the fire was contained to the kitchen, and crews kept it from spreading throughout the home. During the operation, first responders rescued several pets from the home. An adult female resident was treated at the scene and subsequently transported to an Altoona hospital for smoke inhalation. Her current condition has not been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
