The Tyrone Area School District has proposed a 4.9% tax increase, the maximum allowed under the state’s Act 1 Index, to help address a projected $1.2 million budget deficit for the 2026-27 school year. Reportedly, despite this increase and anticipated budget cuts, the district faces a remaining $740,000 deficit, driven by minimal expected increases in state education funding. The preliminary budget, which forecasts $31.9 million in expenditures against $31.2 million in revenue, is scheduled for adoption on June 9th.
