The jury trial for Raymond Thomas Oechsle Jr. began yesterday in Blair County, featuring testimony regarding a 2023 prison attack where the defendant allegedly stabbed two inmates with a pen and a sharpened toothbrush. The prosecution presented evidence of premeditation, including a letter written by Oechsle, while the defendant refused to attend court proceedings. Currently Oechsle has seven active cases against him including a 2023 homicide case in which he has been accused of killing his neighbor Christopher Helsel. Helsel suffered 98 stab wounds, and Oechsle allegedly lived with the body for three days before police discovered it in his apartment. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in that case. Oechsle, who is a native of Philadelphia, has claimed to be the “Frankford Slasher”, an unidentified serial killer responsible for multiple murders in Philadelphia in the late 1980s. Law enforcement has not confirmed this connection. In the trial yesterday, the prosecution rested its case, with closing arguments expected today.
