Luigi Mangione faces a critical hearing today in the New York City trial for his alleged murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The judge in his state trial is set to rule on a motion from his defense team seeking to suppress key evidence collected during his arrest at McDonald’s on Pleasant Valley Blvd., in Altoona on December of 2024. At issue are the items found in his backpack by Altoona Police, which include the alleged murder weapon, and his journal. Mangione’s defense says they were unlawfully seized without a warrant. Mangione faces state and federal charges in his alleged assassination of Thompson, and the judge in his federal trial already ruled to allow the items into that trial.
