The Appvion paper mill in Roaring Spring is being torn down after having been in the community for over 100 years.  The paper mill closed in 2021 resulting in the loss of 300 jobs. Roaring Spring Borough Council has considered several potential projects for the site, however a decision on what do to with the property, once it’s cleared, has not been made. There have been discussions to use the grounds to involve upgrades to the Spring Cove School District such as a sports complex and football and soccer fields. Another proposal would include a privately owned amphitheater.  The paper mill was founded in 1866.
