For Q94’s latest “Local Song of the Week,” we check out a creation by one of the Altoona area’s newest rock groups, Ugmo. Comprised of lead singer and guitarist Eli Steward, guitarist Gage Ickes, bassist Michael Brown and drummer Trey Boore, Ugmo merges several styles into their own brand of indie jam rock. The group’s live shows are often freewheeling affairs that take their own course on any given occasion, as the musicians let the muse guide the way – free-jamming can meander into an instrumental version of a Steely Dan classic, Grateful Dead numbers, inventive psychedelic pieces and more! Bottom line, these guys are fun! Ugmo recently issued their debut five-song EP called “Snacks,” which contains the song we selected for the “Local Song of the Week,” the cleverly-titled “Neil’s Diamond.” Enjoy, and watch for this young crew on your favorite area stage!
