Windber Man Accused of Hitting Child

A Windber man is facing child endangerment charges after he allegedly hit a child. 42 year old Matthew Washko was arrested after an 8th grader told her principal that Washko had assaulted her on May 4th while they were in a car together.  Reportedly an argument broke out between the two, and while at a stop sign, Washko allegedly got out of the car and pulled the victim from the back seat to the front by her hair.  Washko is also alleged to have put his hand on the back of the victim’s head and pushed it forward to make it difficult to breathe. He is also to have hit her numerous times across the face causing her nose to bleed. . Police noted in an affidavit that both the victim’s eyes were black and blue.  Washko is facing charges of endangering the welfare of a child and numerous other offenses. He is currently in the Cambria County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 15th.
